On May 19th Captain Dave Huseman, Captain Mike Van Elgort, and the crew of Engine Company 4,- higher class Captain Daniel Delong, FE Russ Davis, FF Khader Nimeh, and FF/P Chris Salcido were recognized for their outstanding achievement in the EMS field at the 2010 Santa Clara County EMS Conference. The event was hosted by Applied Materials. Each year EMS personnel are recognized for their outstanding achievement related to contributions at the County level as well as outstanding performance in the field. This year Captain Huseman was recognized for his teaching and mentorship throughout the County related to EMS issues. Captain Van Elgort received recognition as being an EMS advocate who sought out needed changes for improved treatments. Engine Company 4 crew was recognized for an incident at San Jose City College during a high school football game. On November 26th, 2009 Engine 4 responded to SJCC for a report of a head injury sustained during a football game. From the time of dispatch to delivery to the emergency room only 8 minutes passed. Because of the professional care and timely treatment the young man received, the outcome was positive. Congratulations to all of this years recipients. Your dedication to our department and the EMS field has made a positive difference throughout the County and has made a lifelong difference in a young man's life. Great job!
