Firefighters from the San José Fire Department responded to a large lumber yard fire on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 7:46 AM. The blaze broke out at Padula Lumber located at 8149 Monterey Road south of San José.

Upon their arrival the crew of Engine Company 27 reported that several buildings and a large quantity of lumber were burning.

As additional resources responded to the scene defensive operations commenced to contain the fire with suppression efforts hampered by a lack of available water. Hydrants in the area were dry requiring the use of numerous water tenders to transport water to the scene.

In addition to San José Fire Department resources, several other agencies responded to assist the South Santa Clara County Fire District/CAL FIRE including Santa Clara County Fire, Gilroy Fire and the Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
