Shortly before 5:00 a.m., Sunday, February 18, 2007, units of San Jose Fire Department's Battalion 2; under the direction of Battalion Chief Cliff Hubbard, responded to a report of fire in a multi-unit, single-story,
concrete tilt-up strip mall at
1969 Tully Road in East San Jose.
Upon arrival
Engine Company 16, led by Captain Angela Jacobs, reported heavy smoke conditions from the front of the structure. A second-alarm was immediately called due to the rapidly deteriorating conditions.
Truck Company 3, led by Captain Barry Franchi, laddered and ventilated the structure while additional companies entered the interior of the building and began to pull ceiling in an attempt to extinguish fire that had spread into the attic.

As the fire advanced throughout the building crews were ordered to vacate the roof and interior to assume defensive operations. A third-alarm was called only minutes later bringing the total number of Firefighters on scene to approximately 80.

The bulk of the fire was knocked down approximately one hour into the event with the aid of three
master streams from Trucks 2, 3 and 18. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
