SJFD and SCCBFA help earthquake victims in Haiti

The Santa Clara County Black Firefighters Association shoe drive "Soles4Souls" was a huge success!!! The San Jose Fire Department and members helped out by preparing all the shoes brought to nearby San Jose Fire Stations. As of Sunday, January 31st, a total of 146 bags holding 15 pairs of shoes per bag were delivered to Sport Chalet for transport to Haiti. That's over 2200 pairs of shoes! This could not have be possible without the generosity of the men and women who donated their time and effort towards this worthy cause.
Mark Roberts, President of SCCBFA was a driving force behind this charity event and says " I would like to thank the Office of the Fire Chief for supporting this drive by allowing the use of all San Jose Fire Stations as drop off locations and providing a van to use. I would like to give special thanks to BC Curtis Jacobson, FF Jason Bivens and FE Mel Meeks for spearheading this effort and seeing it through until the end."
Captain Scott Kouns,
San Jose Fire Department

I heard about your efforts and my 3rd graders have been collecting shoes for you to send. However, I've had difficulty finding where to deliver them until I just found this blog.

My kids are going to be so disappointed if we can't get them to you. They've collected 15 moving boxes of 104 pairs of all sizes of shoes. Is it too late? Please call asap - 341-7000 x 4708.
