Just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2007 San Jose Fire Department Communications began to field '911' calls reporting a structure fire at
5520 Alum Rock Avenue at Ridgeview Avenue in East San Jose.

Under the direction of Battalion Chief Jose Luna, a full first alarm was dispatched. First arriving units reported a working fire in a single story single family dwelling. Firefighters from San Jose Stations 19, 2, 21, and 16, working with Battalion 2 and Battalion 1, made an aggressive fire attack and were able to bring the fire under control in just over an hour. The structure sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
San Jose Fire Department has continued to respond to a significant amount of structure fires since early October, 2006.
