On Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 1059 hours, units of the San Jose Fire Department responded to reports of a brush fire that had ignited in an open field along Singleton Road near Locke Drive.

As the first units, Engine 18 and Engine 24, approached the scene additional resources were immediately called in to help attack the fast moving flames pushed by a steady north wind.

Eventually the fire would grow to a second-alarm, consuming approximately seven acres of brush and grass, with San Jose firefighters being assisted by CAL FIRE personnel, including the Alma Helitack crew and their water-dropping Copter 106.

Firefighters were able to successfully contain the fire and protect homes bordering the open field on all sides.

Large column of smoke rises from two-alarm vegetation fire.
