Three-alarm vegetation fire burns in Kelley Park

On Monday, June 16th, 2014, at 1042 hours, the San José Fire Department responded to multiple calls of a fire burning inside Kelly Park near Senter Road and Phelan Avenue.

As firefighters arrived in the area heavy smoke billowed above the park prompting requests for additional resources, including a response from CAL FIRE. Firefighters made access to the blaze and discovered a contractor’s truck that had been unloading mulch when it accidentally started the fire.

Thanks to light winds, moderate temperature and recently cut grass, firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading beyond two acres. There were no injuries reported and the fire was declared contained at 1400 hours and under control at 1513 hours.
